THE GOLDEN FOUR:

1: Don't be a dick.
If you feel like you shouldn't be doing something, you're probably right.
Going out of your way to ruin rounds will end with you dead at beast, banned at worst.
Sabotaging parts of the station, releasing hostile mobs and causing chaos for no reason falls under Rule 1.
Do not start fights or chaos on the Emergency Shuttle unless the round has already ended.
Clowns and Mimes are given more leeway, but are still bound to this rule.
Antag-fishing/self-antagging is not allowed. Do not assist antagonists nor attempt to make yourself an antagonist.
Under Declaration of War, don't grief in general. Stealing stones for no reason counts as grief.

2: Validity and Escalation
Under no circumstance are you not allowed to fight back.
When you engage in a fight to the death, you get two options: adminhelp, or go for the throat. You don't get it both ways.
An eye for an eye. You can kill a guy in an escalated conflict (i.e breaking into your department and you want to throw him out), but not for disarming you twice.
Security should abstain from killing people unless necessary, brig people instead. The crew should also not lynch security just for doing their job.
Crying that you're going to call the admins on someone IC, subtly or not, is a great way to get the admins to start helping the person who is currently arresting, robbing, killing or griefing you.
Antagonists, Cluwnes, Catbeasts/Tajarans and those who read erotic copypastas over the radio are valid to be killed for no reason at all.

2.5: Antagonist Rules
Antagonists do not have to obey Rule 1 or Rule 2.
Don't grief your teammates. Your teammates will always have an icon to the right of their sprite.
Do not spawncamp arrivals.
In the extremely rare event that one of your teammates is a catbeast or a cluwne, don't kill them.

3: Hippiestation is Low/Lax Roleplay
Roleplaying is not enforced outside of a few conditions:
Don't talk about the current round in OOC before it has ended.
Don't have a pants-on-head retarded name. Antagonists, Clowns, Mimes and Silicons are excused from this.
Don't use emotes, parenthesis, usernames/ckeys, or leetspeek IC.
No erotic roleplay.
Metagaming is strictly forbidden:
Do not use information you have gained while dead in the current round (i.e who the antags are).
Metacommunication is defined as using an external chat or voice over IP client to talk about the current round. Violators for metacomms will be permanently banned.
Metafriending is the act of retaining friendships from past rounds and using it to influence your decisions in-game. Conversely, metagrudging is the act of holding grudges over rounds and letting this influence your IC decisions.
Multikeying is using multiple accounts in one round to continue playing the game.
Punishments for metagaming will be particularly severe compared to the rest of the rules, and especially the roleplaying rules.

4: Obey your laws as a silicon.
If you have laws, you're a silicon.
Laws take priority in the order that they are listed, first to last, highest to lowest.
Silicons do not have to obey Rule 1 or Rule 2. Your laws are the replacements for those rules. Rule 2.5 still applies as an antagonist.
You may still freely murder catbeasts, cluwnes, and erotic copypasta readers regardless of lawset.
You may loophole every law you have, unless you are currently emagged. Loopholing default lawsets to be a dick will get you killed at best, banned at worst.
Roundstart races count as human under asimov. Wizards, Nuclear Operatives, and Abductors are obviously not crew.

As draconian as it sounds, Hippiestation Admins have the final say on what stays and what goes. Some discretion is allowed by the admins when things are funny or a net-positive for the round, even if they are against the rules. The goal of the rules is to ensure rounds stay fun.

If you believe that an admins idea of the rules is as retarded as an autistic twelve year old with down syndrome and late-stage creutzfeldt-jakob disease's idea of quantum physics, then go to Admin Complaints
If you think you were punished unfairly, or can prove that your dog did in fact get on your computer and grief the server, then go to Ban Appeals.

Short FAQ:
What does 'don't be a dick' actually mean?Show
Don't be a dick is really just a term for "don't run around ruining rounds, killing people, etc for no good reason." Players who just want to run around griefing are a detriment to the design of SS13, and as a result are unwelcome on nearly every single server. This doesn't mean fun is banned, HippieStation still wants players to be able to run around and have fun, just not to the point to where you can kill people just because they called you a mean word.
Linetoeing is a classic example of being a dick, where a player will attempt to "rules lawyer" their way around killing, bombing, griefing, or otherwise maiming their fellow crew for no reason. Linetoeing the rules does in fact fall under Rule 1.
I'm a monkey/spider/xenomorph/whatever. Do the rules apply to me?Show
Monkeys, simple mobs, and xenomorphs do not have to follow any of the rules outside of Rule 3. Even then most of us won't care. If you make yourself into a monkey, simple mob, or xenomorph so you can run around killing people, you will be banned.
What's a list of things I can reliably kill people for?Show
THIS IS NOT A COMPREHENSIVE LIST AND IS NOT A BE-ALL-END-ALL. USE YOUR GREY MATTER TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT KILLING SOMEONE FOR THESE THINGS IS REASONABLE.
Being an antagonist, catbeast, cluwne, or erotic copypasta reader (obviously).
Hulks running around smashing everything in sight cannot be stunned, so using lethal force against them is okay.
Building walls everywhere or otherwise severely obstructing the hallways (outside of something like water vapor) is a reason to kill someone.
Breaching the station, smashing windows leading to space, or otherwise.
Geneticists monkeying people for no reason, or otherwise just yourself. Adminhelp it too.

If you catch someone using extremely large bombs, flooding plasma or other harmful gasses, burning down the station, or causing large-scale murder, it might be better to adminhelp than attempt to take them on. Still, go for it.
This guy is griefing every round. Why won't the admins ban him?!Show
Simply put, he might not have broken the rules when one of the admins saw him, even if he was being a bit griefy. If you notice a player consistently being like this round after round, adminhelp asking them to be watched or make a ban request. Ban requests are slow, but usually result in harsher punishments. It's also easier to compile evidence there.
